Changes to Selection for the 2025 intake

The 2025 Training Program Selection Regulations for the 2025 intake have been published.

As most members are aware, the Selection process is reviewed on an annual basis.  The FTC strives for a balanced approach, with consideration for the needs of the community, members, training program, and regulatory standards in developing a fair and comprehensive Selection process. To maintain consistency, in 2024 the FTC will continue using the Situational Judgement Test (SJT) and verbal referee reports introduced in 2023.

RACS has partnered with a new SJT facilitator to enhance the robustness of SJT creation and implementation. Thank you to the members who participated in the recent SJT workshops, which were well attended by a diverse group of subject matter experts.

In recognition of the increasing demand for training places, the FTC has removed the limit on the number of attempts that can be made for Selection. A counselling session after a third unsuccessful attempt will be maintained. Members are encouraged to provide continuous and frank feedback to their unaccredited registrars.

For the 2025 intake the FTC has introduced new Selection initiatives to attract Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI), rural and female applicants to our specialty, consistent with the aims of our Diversity and Inclusion strategy.
