Seeking Faculty for RACS Courses

by Unknown |
RACS is calling for expressions of interest from AOA Fellows who might consider becoming teaching faculty for RACS skills courses.

AOA trainees are currently required to complete ASSET, CCrISP and TIPS during Introduction to Orthopaedics and EMST during Core orthopaedics.

There have been a number of challenges associated with delivering courses under COVID restrictions and these have resulted in many courses being cancelled over the last 18 months, particularly where there may not be enough local faculty in a region to support a course.

RACS have acknowledged that travel restrictions have been a challenge for running courses in a post-COVID world. Interstate and sometimes even trans-Tasman travel was relied on heavily to conduct courses in pre-COVID times.

RACS would welcome applications from Fellows to become teachers on skills courses.  Additional information is available on the RACS website, Teach on a RACS skills course. The webpage discusses becoming an instructor and from that page one can navigate to further details about becoming an instructor for each of the Skills courses.

RACS are in particular hoping to expand the TIPS program to find more faculty for every region.  There are approximately 65 current TIPS instructors throughout Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand and there are 144-176 teaching places to be filled in order to conduct all the courses scheduled for 2022. Particular regions of focus would be Western Australia, Queensland, and New South Wales.

The current program coordinators for each RACS courses are listed below and can be contacted for queries for that particular course:
