This year the AOA Research Foundation (AOARF) awarded five AOARF Grants and two AOARF Early-Career Researcher Grants to support research into musculoskeletal disorders.

The AOARF would like to congratulations the following grant recipients on their successful applications:

Research Foundation Grants

  • Christopher Little: ‘To initiate an extensive, open access, database of the morphometric, biomechanical, biochemical, histological and ultrastructural properties of normal human upper and lower limb tendons and ligaments that are either commonly reconstructed, or used as graft tissues for reconstruction.’
  • Ross Crawford: ‘To understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms for increased PJI susceptibility in obese patients.’
  • Lihai Zhang: ‘To develop an optimal progressive weight bearing rehabilitation exercise for improving lower extremities fracture healing.’
  • Ian Harris: ‘DISTINCT: Dual mobility versus standard total hip arthroplasty in femoral neck fractures, a cluster randomised trial.’
  • Peter Smitham: ‘To develop a software program that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to measure implant stability following total hip replacement.’

Research Foundation Grants-Early Career Researcher Grant

  • Sam Adie: ‘Individual patient data meta-analysis: Operative vs. non-operative treatment for adult distal radius fractures.’
  • Verinder Sidhu: ‘To compare the incidence of persistent wound drainage (PWD) in patients receiving aspirin or LMWH at two high volume joint replacement centres (Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Fairfield Hospital) participating in the CRISTAL study.’

Over the last 20 years, the AOA Research Foundation (AOARF) has awarded more than $1.65 million in grants to support over 130 research projects.

The AOARF is proud to support this important research into musculoskeletal disorders. We look forward to reporting on the outcomes of the research in the near future.
