Nursing student Molly Bellchambers spoke to experts at the 2025 AOA Annual Scientific Meeting in Hobart to share her remarkable story of resilience after being diagnosed with Perthes’ disease, a rare hip condition that affects children between the ages of three and eleven.
Having had to learn to walk again at just 15 years old, Molly offers a powerful reminder of the patient experience that underpins orthopaedic care. Her story highlights the importance of listening to patient voices and integrating their insights into evidence-based practice.
Incoming President Mark Moroney, President Scott Fletcher and Scientific Secretary Ken Cutbush also reflected on the significance of the ASM in driving progress, collaboration, and improved patient outcomes.
The ASM embodies the ongoing evolution of orthopaedics – showcasing the exchange of ideas, innovations, and scientific evidence that continue to strengthen the specialty.
AOA would like to thank Molly for her contribution and for sharing her story with members.
