AOA APOS ASM Bursary Program

The Australian Paediatric Orthopaedic Orthopaedic Society (APOS) in partnership with AOA has created an ASM bursary for APOS members to encourage and facilitate attendance at the 2026 AOA ASM.

Established in 1991, APOS is committed to advancing paediatric orthopaedic care through high-quality education, supporting research that improves patient outcomes, fostering peer review to maintain high standards of care, and collaborating with international paediatric orthopaedic societies to enhance research and education.

The 86th AOA Annual Scientific Meeting, with the theme 'Celebrating 90 Years of Clinical Excellence and Global Engagement', will take place at the Cairns Convention Centre from 11–15 October 2026.

Two bursaries are available for APOS members from anywhere in Australia. 


What's included?

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to attend:

  • the 86th AOA Annual Scientific Meeting, over two days in Cairns.
  • keynote and paper presentations.
  • the AOA president's cocktail reception.
  • the AOA Gala Dinner (one ticket). 

What's covered?

  • Full costs of the conference registration, including the social function.
  • Return economy fights to Cairns from place of residence (excluding Cairns based applicants).
  • Up to four nights' accommodation at a premium hotel in Cairns close to the conference (excluding Cairns based applicants).

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicants who members of APOS and Fellows or Associates (trainees) of AOA. 
  • Applicants who are employed in a part-time or full-time capacity.
  • Applicants who are financial members of APOS and AOA.
  • Applicants who may be on interruption from their training.
  • Applicants who have not received any other AOA bursaries or prizes in the last two years.
  • Applicants who are eligible are those presenting paediatric orthopaedic research at the ASM.

Applicants are asked to provide brief supporting detail on their interest in the AOA ASM and how their attendance will benefit their training, practice, or career.

Applications open 19 June and should be submitted via the online form below by 30 June 2026.

Allocation of bursaries will be undertaken by a conference bursary panel which may include representatives of the APOS Executive Committee and AOA head office allocated staff. The bursary panel will review: 

  • eligibility criteria.
  • application response/input.

Applicants are advised to discuss their attendance at the conference with their relevant employers and supervisors.

Timing

The proposed timing is set as follows:

  • Bursary applications open 19 June 2026.
  • Bursary applications close 30 June 2026.

The successful applicant will be notified by 31 July 2026. 

It is not possible to provide feedback on applications, and no correspondence regarding decisions on applications will be entered into.
