About the ASA
The ASA is an AOA subspecialty group, comprising surgeons and researchers with a specialty interest in hip and knee arthroplasty surgery. Founded in 1993, the Society currently has over 120 members, with representation from each of the states and territories.
The main function of the Arthroplasty Society is to promote the science and practice of hip and knee arthroplasty. Members are active in research and teaching, and regularly present at national and international meetings. The Society conducts an annual scientific meeting.
Membership
The Society welcomes new members and are looking to recruit AOA members who have a particular interest and experience in hip and knee arthroplasty. Potential new members are nominated for membership by existing Arthroplasty Society members who are actively involved in the Society.
In general terms, new applicants require five or more years of experience in the field of hip and knee arthroplasty surgery before being considered for membership. Younger surgeons or those interested in joining the Society are welcome to attend the annual ASA meeting as guests of existing members or of the President. This encouragement particularly applies to new orthopaedic surgeons who have recently completed local or overseas hip and knee arthroplasty fellowships and who intend to sub-specialise is this area.
For those suitable AOA members who are interested in applying for ASA membership, or younger members interested in attending as a guest, please contact Matthew Lyons.
