2026 OWL Essay

Topic: 'Balancing the scales for the next 90 years: innovation, inclusion, engagement, and excellence in orthopaedics’

OWL Essay theme and prize tile 2026

AOA invites all female medical students, interns, and junior doctors (not yet on the AOA 21 training program) to enter the 2026 OWL Essay. 

Let us know your thoughts on the theme in a maximum of 750 words and you could be flying to present your essay at the 2026 ASM in Cairns (or a state-based ASM of your choice).

Prize details:

The winner will receive:

  • complimentary registration to the AOA ASM in Cairns in October, or alternatively, a state ASM in 2026/27 (including social events on the program)
  • return flights (outside of Cairns or state/territory of residence if attending a state ASM)
  • up to two nights' accommodation to attend the AOA ASM or state ASM (one nights' accommodation if the ASM chosen is one day)
  • (if available) opportunity to present your essay at your chosen ASM (optional)
  • your essay published in AOA's flagship publication, the AOA Bulletin, with announcements across AOA's socials.
