2023 AOA Annual Scientific Meeting

Welcome - AOA President

Chris Morrey

The past 3 years has been a struggle for us all. I hope 2023 finds you all fit and well and enjoying some normality back into our lives both professionally and personally.

For the past 3 years the AOA ASM has been considerably impacted by the Covid pandemic. It has seen 2 years of zoom/hybrid meetings with a loss of face-to-face contact. The 2022 combined ASM was held with NZOA and saw us travel across the Tasman to attend.

I’m very excited to announce that the AOA ASM will return to its traditional format in 2023 with a face to face meeting and some virtual elements. The annual ASM is the AOA’s most important scientific event and allows people from all over Australia and the world to come together for 4 days of education, networking and social events.

It would be expected that the attendance at this meeting will exceed all expectations even greater than the 1515 attendees who attended the last ASM held in Melbourne.

As President my theme for the meeting is “Rural surgery - Build it and they will come”.

This will allow us to showcase what great work is done in our rural areas and opportunities which exist outside of the “big smoke “.

I invite you, on behalf of the AOA, to attend the 83rd AOA scientific meeting.  This will allow you to interact with a large number of our AOA members and also the larger orthopaedic community both nationally and internationally.

Looking forward to seeing you in Melbourne in 2023.
