2026 AOA Annual Scientific Meeting

Local Convenor

Ben and Dani Parkinson

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great anticipation that we welcome you to Cairns, Far North Queensland, for the 86th Annual Scientific Meeting. We look forward to hosting you for a week of high-quality scientific exchange and collegial engagement in one of Australia’s most distinctive regions.

Cairns offers a unique setting, positioned between two World Heritage listed environments, the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforest. The region provides exceptional opportunities to experience Australia’s natural environment, all within close proximity to the city and conference venue. From the rainforest village of Kuranda and the Atherton Tablelands to the coral reefs, delegates can also enjoy local waterfalls, gorges, established hiking and mountain-biking trails, and diverse wildlife encounters.

This meeting will also represent a homecoming for our current AOA President, Mark Moroney, who will conclude his presidential year in his childhood home region. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with colleagues and friends during the meeting. Pack for the tropics and heed the wise advice of our local past president, Chris Morrey, “Only the defendant wears a tie in North Queensland.”

We look forward to welcoming you to Cairns for what promises to be an outstanding Annual Scientific Meeting.
