Local Convenor - Matt Wilkinson

Matt & Jane Wilkinson

Dear Colleagues, we look forward to welcoming you to the 85th annual scientific meeting to be held this year in Hobart.  It has been 18 years since the ASM was last held in Hobart and during that time, Tasmania has developed into becoming one of Australia’s most popular destinations for food, culture and the outdoors.

There are no shortage of outstanding restaurants, museums, vineyards, distilleries and opportunities to experience some incredibly unique nature and amazing wildlife.  Much of Tasmania is accessible within a short drive from Hobart.  From the spectacular East coast including the Bay of fires and Freycinet, to the rugged and remote West coast, with cool-temperate rainforests, wild rivers and staggering waterfalls.   There is The Tasman Peninsula, the three capes and historic Port Arthur.  The stunning peaks of Cradle Mountain and Australia’s best adrenalin-pumping mountain biking trails.  Tasmania offers an remarkable variety of experiences that caters for all.

This year’s theme for the ASM is “Connection”.  We plan to bring an exciting academic program in a fantastic location that fosters the spirit of connection and collaboration amongst the AOA community.  Appropriately, our current AOA President, Scott Fletcher hails from Tasmania and so we are especially excited to share this great destination with you all during this year’s ASM.
