Ian Chesterman AM is President of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member for Australia. 

 

Elected AOC President in 2022, Ian previously served as AOC Vice President from 2016 to 2022 and has been a member of the AOC Executive since 2001. He has played a central role in Australian Olympic sport for more than three decades. 

 

Ian has an unparalleled record as Chef de Mission of Australian Olympic Teams. He led the Australian Team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and six consecutive Winter Olympic Games from Nagano 1998 to PyeongChang 2018. In doing so, he became the first Australian to lead both Summer and Winter Olympic Teams, and the first to head seven Olympic Teams in total. He also led the Australian Team at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer. 

 

Ian is a Director on the Board of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee, Chair of the Australian Olympic Foundation, and a Board Member of the Olympic Winter Institute. He also serves on the Executive Board of the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC). 

 

He was made a Life Member of the Australian Olympic Committee in 2018 and appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2019 for his distinguished service to the Olympic Movement. 

Dr Al Burns is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon from Canberra, having done a fellowship in London, Ontario, Canada. He predominantly performs lower limb joint replacement and hip arthroscopy surgery, and his interests include the management of prosthetic joint infection, and techniques for its reduction. Particular career highlights include getting an outside edge from batsman Jonathan Mulford in the northside-southside cricket match in 2004, which was unfortunately dropped at second slip. He also thinks that he is funnier than he actually is.

Dr Gupta is a Sub specialist shoulder surgeon working in Brisbane Australia. His practice solely comprises of shoulder surgery. He is a dedicated clinician and teacher. He is the Director of the QUASR Shoulder Clinical Fellowship.

 

Prof Gupta is actively involved in basic science research at the Queensland University of Technology and is the founding Director of QUASR - Queensland Unit for Advanced Shoulder Research.  QUASR is a dedicated research organisation with over 70 personnel with a key focus on biomechanical, tissue, 3 D printing, robotics and computational research into the shoulder. This is now the parent organisation for Australian Research Council Training Center in Joint Biomechanics ( ARC ITTC JB) 

 

He Completed his Orthopaedic training in Queensland. Dr Gupta completed advanced shoulder arthroscopy and arthroplasty fellowships with Dr Lafosse (France), Dr Seebauer (Germany) and at Fowler Kennedy sports clinic and / Hand and Upper Limb Clinic G Athwal/R Litchfield (Canada) where he also completed his Masters.

 

His interest in data powered integrated personalised healthcare; computer modelling, patient outcome / AI driven Pre Op planning and Mixed Reality driven surgical intervention has led to Akunah which Ashish is the CEO of Akunah is driving towards bringing Australian Health tech to a global market. https://akunah.com/

Adj/Prof Michael McAuliffe graduated from the University of Qld in 1996. He subsequently undertook subspeciality training in knee and sports surgery. His research interests are focussed on arthroplasty surgery, particularly in relation to the knee. He received his doctorate from the Queensland University of Technology for work based around the soft tissues of the osteoarthritic knee and their impacts on joint replacement surgery. He was awarded the ABC Travelling Fellowship in 2016 and has received the AOA Humanitarian Award for Outreach work in the pacific islands and for commitments to cancer research. He has over 50 peer reviewed publications and has presented at multiple conferences. Since 2023, he has been one of the Deputy Clinical Directors of the AOANJRR.
