Bill Walter is the Professor of Orthopaedics and Traumatic Surgery at the University of Sydney and Royal North Shore Hospital and the Mater Hospital. Specialising in joint replacement surgery for 20 years, Professor Walter is a member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and President of Arthroplasty Society of Australia.
Bill supervises PhD students, Masters students and medical students. He served as Chairman of the department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Mater Hospital from 2011 to 2014. Professor Walter hosted the International Society for Orthopaedic Centres meeting in Sydney in 2017 and was President of the International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty in 2012. In May 2022 Professor Walter was appointed the President of the Arthroplasty Society of Australia.
Professor Walter’s research is published in peer reviewed international arthroplasty journals and was awarded the 2021 Pier Giorgio Marchetti, MD, Award for Distinguished International Alumnus from The Hospital for Special Surgery, New York City.
